Compiled quotes from six insurance companies into a table, sharing my price comparison methodology

My renewal season itch led me to get quotes from six companies for the same coverage (100/300/100, $500 deductible for comp/collision). Here are my findings: 1) The highest and lowest quotes differed by 47%. For the same person and car, not comparing prices is like giving money away for free. 2) After bundling renters insurance, two companies immediately offered discounts of 8-12%, worth asking about. 3) Paying annually is generally 4-7% cheaper than paying monthly. 4) Companies from which I previously canceled my policy were surprisingly aggressive with their quotes this year. Blacklisting them is pointless; just compare prices again each year. 5) When comparing prices, ensure the coverage is exactly the same. Some low-price quotes quietly removed UM coverage. Before accepting a cheap quote, check the terms. My methodology can be summarized in one sentence: Spend 40 minutes before each renewal to get quotes from three or more companies. You can save an average of $200-$300, which is a very high hourly wage operation.
